Mobile YouTube now showing banner advertisements

Oh Google. Why must you own every aspect of my life and then choose to fill it with advertisements and monetization attempts? While I’m not as inclined to watch YouTube videos on my phone, there are many people who do and, well, Google wants its cut. As such, mobile ads will now be showing up on the mobile YouTube site.

The annoucement mentions that the banner ads will be displayed in several areas on m.youtube.com, but they’re only targeting the United States and Japan in the short term

Vancouver area graveyard getting a Rogers cell tower?

Vancouver is easily one of the most expensive and least affordable places to live in the country. That’s why more and more people are moving into the suburbs and this has created an added strain on the cellular coverage in the ‘burbs. To better address these concerns, Rogers wants to set up a new cell tower… but they want to do it in a cemetery.

Apparently, Rogers Communications wants to erect a new cell tower in the middle of the Port Coquitlam Cemetary. This tower will be forty meters in height and will provide better coverage to people living in the Port Coquitlam area, which is about half an hour from Vancouver proper.

Samsung R1 and R0 portable media players launched

If you’re looking for yet another option to take your music with you on the road, Samsung has you covered with two new offerings. The Korean juggernaut has just announced the new Samsung R1 and R0 portable media players.

For the Samsung R1, you get a form factor that is smaller than a credit card to go along with the 2.4-inch TFT LCD touchscreen. The drag and drop feature allows you to shift those files around with a swipe of a finger.

That must be the question on many minds once they step in their earth-friendly, yet potentially deadly, Toyota Prius. If my gas pedal gets stuck, or my brakes become unresponsive, how will I stop this thing? James Sikes of El Cajon, California recently had to experience that, and it came in bad time as Toyota just finished inviting the press to give them an ear on how electronic flaws could not cause their cars to speed out of control under real-world driving conditions. Well Toyota, tell that to Mr. Sikes.

The newest version of The Price is Right video game has just been ported to the iPhone and iPod Touch. A sequel to 2008’s The Price is Right, the popular game already owned by many, so the question now is whether I upgrade to the new version or has the price gone wrong?

The Price is Right 2010 has all of the features and controls of the original Price is Right app, plus several improvements. New games are added such as Golden Road, the avatars now get customizable wardrobes, the look of the game got a huge overhaul, and the prices and prizes are updated for the new decade.

Pioneer DJM-2000 audio mixer first wtih multi-touch display

Pioneer has just revealed a new professoinal DJ mixer, the DJM-2000. This is the first audio mixer to integrate a multi-touch panel, and Pioneer has done it with a 5.8-inch display.

The unit is small enough to bring with you on the road, but slightly larger than its predecessors. Its designed to match up with Pioneer’s CDJ-2000 digital media players allowing you to mix tracks with anything from CDs to USB drives.

Panasonic came out with a stellar camera way back when with the G1, it had a DSLR frame but a Micro Four Thirds System internally and was the first camera of its size to use interchangeable lenses. The Micro Four Thirds System allows smaller frames to be built with lighter lenses, a huge advantage over DSLR cameras.

Mobilicity to undergo CRTC scrutiny regarding ownership

Remember how Wind Mobile went through all sorts of trouble with the CRTC due to its concerns over foreign ownership and control? Well, the other major winner of that spectrum auction is about to jump through the exact same hoops because the CRTC will soon undertake an ownership review of Mobilicity.

The company that you once knew as DAVE Wireless has since been rebranded as Mobilicity and the CRTC will be going through their paperwork to determine if it is compliant with Canadian ownership and control requirements.

HTC HD2 exclusively on T-Mobile March 24

T-Mobile’s hosting a special event in New York City on March 16th to lay to rest all the rumors swirling around the HTC HD2 launch date. We are expecting a March 24th release date according to a leaked roadmap, but a twitter post says it could be as early as March 23rd. The HTC HD2 is quite the monster, it’s got a 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 4.3 inch high-resolution capacitive touchscreen, WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS, a microSD slot bundled with a 16GB card, and a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with dual LED flash.

LG’s latest ultra-slim, ultra-sexy mobile PC goes on sale this month, unfortunately not in North America yet, but a release is imminent. The LG X300 was first seen at CES this past January, measuring only 17.5 mm thick, weighing a mere 970g in brown and white.

A sleek 11.6-inch LCD screen puts it in the MacBook class of computers, but slimming it down to less than that of the MacBook Air.

Public Mobile launches in May, free LD?

The Canadian wireless climate is about to undergo another shakeup. The launch of Wind Mobile opened up the floodgates to some more competition and now another contender is on the way. Public Mobile has already started some guerilla marketing and it seems that it will be launching with free long distance.

If you’ve looked around some towns, you may have seen some ads at bus shelters and other locations that simply say “unlimited.”

Making a phone call on any international or domestic flight is going to cost you a pretty penny, some airlines in Europe, Asia and the Middle East offer GSM Picocell connections for in-flight calling, others like Lufthansa use a SkyPhone service. Regardless of how a the call is made it’s going to cost you about $10 a minute.

A company called ASiQ, based in Melbourne Australia has announced a new SafeCell App in conjunction with a Bluetooth access point for airlines to offer passengers affordable SMS, MMS, voice messaging and text email from their mobile phones.

Apple iPad commercial unveiled at Oscar show

Apple decided to woah Oscar viewers with the first ever Apple iPad commercial last night. It was an unexpected surprise, some thought it would be played at the Superbowl, but that doesn’t seem to be Apple’s primary target audience.
